Residents decry rash of graffiti


YOU LL SEE GANG GRAFFITI IN MANY PLACES OVER THE LAST FEW DAYS RESIDENTS SAY THEY VE SEEN A LARGE AMOUNT OF NEW GRAFFITI ON ALMOST EVERY BLOCK VALERIE CASTRO IS HERE WITH THE STORY VALERIE GRAFFITI IS NOT A NEW PROBLEM IN THE SOUTH VALLEY BUT RESIDENTS SAY THEY RE WORRIED ABOUT THE FRESH BATCH OF PAINT THAT SHOWED UP PRACTICALLY OVERNIGHT As I m driving through the south valley all I could see was gang taggings on so much public property and private property it s just disgusting ROXANNE TYLER SAYS DRIVING ALONG ISLETA BOULEVARD IT S HARD TO IGNORE THE NEW GRAFFITI THAT SEEMS TO BE EVERYWHERE YOU LOOK And the damage is over much more than just a couple of blocks the taggers started here at Los Padillas where they painted right through the street sign ON METAL FENCES AND BUSINESS SIGNS THE GRAFFITI STRETCHES OVER MORE THAN 4 MILES OF ISLETA Until it finally ends here near rio bravo boulevard THE RIO BRAVO SKATE PARK SUFFERED ALSO -- IT S STILL GOT OLD GRAFFITI AND ALONG WITH SOME NEW TAGGING I think it s bad it s just wrecking everything ARNOLDO DOMINQUEZ WHO SPENDS MOST WEEKENDS AT THE PARK SAYS HE DOESN T LIKE TO SEE STREET GANGS ADVERTISE WHERE HE AND HIS FRIENDS RIDE THEIR BIKES If they see all this gang stuff they might become a gang member so it s not cool WHILE TYLER SAYS IT MAKES HER UNCOMFORTABLE TO SEE THE BLATANT DISREGARD FOR PROPERTY It doesn t make me feel good because again it s that mentality they don t care whose stuff they ruin ROXANNE TYLER SAYS SHE NOTIFIED THE COUNTY ABOUT THE NEW GRAFFITI -- NOW SHE S WAITING FOR IT TO BE CLEANED UP
